Style Guide of the Week | Exploring Trends

Welcome back to our weekly style guide! If you’ve been around a bit, you know how much I love to explore and experiment with trends. Our monthly planners and these weekly style guides give us the chance to do just that! This week’s outfits reflect 7 style trends that have piqued my interest this Summer.

Despite its nature of popularity, it’s good to remember that trends come and go. You don’t have to like them, nor do you have to try them, but awareness does play a part in one way or another. And sourcing ways to style these trends ultimately presents more opportunities for you to decide if you are for or against them.

I approach trends much like I do with any new closet additions. I visualize several ways to wear these new ‘prospects’ and determine if they fit within my wardrobe. So instead of 7 looks, I ended up with 14 for the week. You’ve lots of options to explore these trends and determine their grounds! Be sure to check back next week for new styled looks!

Monday

I touched on the rise and return of utilitarian wear earlier this year and I’ve still little objection. Cargo pockets bring a fun element to any look. We’re seeing cargo pockets incorporated into more tailored silhouettes and even played in cropped lengths. You can combine this trend with another or go monochrome.

Tuesday

The wide-leg jean. The second option shown technically isn’t considered wide leg, it’s more horseshoe. Nonetheless, I am still curious and eager to try these relaxed styles. Explore further with the Canadian Tuxedo or stick to coordinating basics like this trucker denim jacket, high neck tank and strap toe sandal.

Wednesday

I love this season’s play on florals. Instead of bold, bright, or exotic we’re seeing more delicate chintzy prints. Think 19th-century decor. I love this smocked maxi dress, paired with raffia accessories. And this colorful ruffled halter is so pretty paired with easy white jeans, wedge sandals, and a designer Summer shoulder bag.

Thursday

Tailored suiting brings awareness to the classics. Wearing these pieces (vests, shorts, blazers) outside the office as casual has become the creative twist. Style a vest with wide-leg cropped jeans or combine neutral tones when heading out for brunch.

Friday

As warm weather draws near, finding comfortable fabrics can prove challenging. The crochet trend solves this dilemma and gives nod to the 60s and 70s. You can ease into the aesthetic with a crochet knit sweater tank or dive in and opt for a lightweight crochet midi dress. Style them both with neutral accessories. These strap sandals, white rim frames, and bracelets are my pick!

Saturday

The flared legging has always been, and will forever be the original yoga pant. Its return doesn’t surprise me and I love styling them comfortably on weekends. Pair them with a batwing sweater and quilted slides for casual errands run. Or give the flared split-hem a try with a cropped bomber jacket and cool sneakers.

Sunday

Nothing says versatile better than a matching set. It’s without question these two athleisure sets give us more than two outfits but sticking to the theme, these will do! I love the simplicity and comfort of both. Complete each with your choice of top and sneakers. I also have my eye on this stylish sling bag. It’s perfect for running errands hands-free!
