Friends, I am going to admit – I’ve developed quite the coat closet this season. Utility, bomber, denim, trench, shag, shacket, quilted – you name it, the style has somehow made it’s way to my closet. I’ve swooned over all styles this season. Some were bought on discount, others mindfully invested. Nonetheless, I am sure my love for all has to do with the completion role outerwear plays in any style formula. Of all of these new additions tho, this Dad camel coat has to be my most favorite outerwear buy to date.
I’ve always admired this style of coat, tho never really landed upon one that I loved. It was either too thick, pricey, fit was off or the hardware lacked function. I had always pinned this style of coat more dressy – and since my everyday stems casual, I feared I wouldn’t get much wear out of it. Leave it to 2020, the year of loungewear and comfort, to steer my thoughts different. I began to see this style functional and extremely versatile. I couldn’t believe it – this categorized 9 to 5 coat was seen over denim, and more so, athleisure! I began to understand why this style of coat is considered a classic and sought out to find one of my own.
What I found is that there are so many options available, at nearly every price point. Almost every retailer has some version of this coat, in one fashion or another. Tho ultimately purchased on discount, I still considered this an investment. I was willing to spend a little more for quality and sustainability. This coat is classic, timeless, and forever in style – definitely a worthy purchase. But if you’re likewise in search of this style, this is an item that is very accessible, no matter your budget.
Before deciding to keep anything, especially those I consider investments, I must envision ways of wearing it. In that stage, I typically pull inspiration from Pinterest, favorite bloggers, and through a simple google search of ‘ways to wear’. I also try it on with as many things in my existing wardrobe as possible. The amount of style inspiration for this particular coat far exceeded my expectations – all confirming value in my investment.
So, what did I decide on? Thought you’d never ask. I ordered a few to compare and ultimately decided on this calf length Dad camel coat. I love the zipper, pocket placement, and overall length. The color really is what sold me tho – a soft neutral camel that pairs with almost everything. It’s as if it was meant for me.
Let’s get to the outfits, shall we? With this style of coat being as timeless as it is, it’s likely that many of you already have something similar in closet. You can pull today’s inspo and easily recreate these looks from items you already own. As mentioned before, my hope in providing you style inspiration is never to get you to buy something new – but rather to encourage you to work with what you have. Style with denim // You’ll see that no matter the style of denim, this coat works with all. Dress your denim casually, or up with boots and it still completes your look nicely. Shop any of the looks by clicking the images below.
style with a skirt // I consider leopard a neutral print in closet, so it didn’t take long for me to pair the coat with this repeater midi. I love how it looks dressed up, but it would work equally as well with sneakers for a more casual look.
style with leggings // this styling is what drew me back to this coat and ultimately convinced the buy. I love the mix of casual and sophistication. Wear over a graphic sweatshirt, or make it an extreme mix of both with a cashmere sweater and faux leather leggings. Just a prime example of this coat’s true versatility.
