4 ways to wear Converse sneakers for Summer

I am going to be honest and admit – I am not one to wear sneakers a lot. Maybe it’s because I am short and I tend to enjoy the bit of height a wedge or boot might otherwise give. Or could be I outwore my share of Jack Purcells growing up and I’ve categorized the style juvenile. But, for the purpose of this post, and to feed my creative styling fix, I thought to share ways to style this ever popular shoe. No matter the level of personal wear, I am sure we can all agree that sneakers rest in the definition of casual wear. As of late, why I haven’t experimented the style in adult years surprises me – casual comfort is my #momiform.

For me, a sneaker has to hold a narrow sole – meaning it’s not boxy. I feel a boxy looking sneaker prohibits any chance of elongating my already short frame.  It has to be comfortable, fashionable, and of course – versatile in order for me to consider the try on.

Back in March I received a pair of Chuck Taylor Shoreline sneakers in my Trunk Club Box. They fit all the reqs. Comfortable and stylish to a T. Tho I liked them, I again – contemplated. How would I style them? Would I wear them enough to justify the spend? I’ll note, it wasn’t the price – they really aren’t more than what I normally pay for a pair of shoes (around $50) .. maybe I was I too old to wear these? Reality is, I just wasn’t convinced enough. Knowing they carried them at DSW with a pretty good return policy, I waited for a sale and ultimately grabbed them on discount Mother’s Day weekend. An opportunity to give them a try with less out of pocket. Ya’ll – worth every single, discounted penny. I can honestly say they are now the most versatile, everyday shoe I own. Again – why I waited so long is beyond me!

You honestly can style Chuck Taylors for most anything – work, holiday parties, dates, weekend wear – I’ve even seen them at a few weddings! Tho an all occasion year round staple, we are nearing the heartbeat of Summer. For today’s post, I’ve put together 4 looks for you – all featuring my newest slip on Converse sneakers, all warm weather focused. Let’s get to styling our Summer sneaks, shall we?!

This look is so fun and whimsical, don’t you think? Pulling prints and fabric aesthetics together adds a bit of character and style to your look. I found this adorable ruffled skirt on Amazon for less than $15 and paired it with my $12 ‘Summer vibes’ Target tank. Knot the tank however you wish to accentuate the waist, or wear off the hanger. Both fit TTS.

My go-to short for the Summer is always high waisted. I love the fit of this pair – the waist is elasticized and fit’s comfortably. And on those cool(er) days and nights I’ll pair them with a lightweight sweater, similar to this one. Casual comfort for the win!

Tho the jumpsuit is no longer available and this romper is limited on sizes, I wanted to include the option to style your sneakers with a popular Summer favorite. Pairing a more sophisticated piece or print with a casual shoe not only proves the one-piece versatile, but it makes the combination of feminine and sporty work! I’ve found a few similar styles and prints here and here.

Lastly, this look right here is the classic ‘momiform’, imo. Slightly distressed, stretchy cropped jean and a soft ribbed tank. This tank is very soft, and a bit oversized – which I think is always necessary to pull off a good front tuck. The buttons down the front give it some character and keep it from looking too boring. Again, I’ve linked a similar option here. You’ve seen these cropped jeans before – still tried and true favorites. I love the classic button fly, minimal distressed knee, and cropped cuff look.

Which look is your favorite? How do you wear your sneakers for Summer?
