Bike short round up | ways to style

Ya’ll, I used to make fun of biker shorts. I remember researching trends a while back and simply laughed at the thought of wearing them on style alone. In my mind, they were for the pros. The cyclists I’d see riding Tour de France were the only exception and held a justifiable reason for wear. But me? I may be an avid runner and Pelaton rider, but the thought of opting for the short still sat extreme in my mind. And styling them leisurely – or even dressing them up a bit – was ridiculous.

But then I gave in. I first took it slow and tried out the shorts as they’re intended, on the bike. As with any trend, I saw more retailers participate and release their styles. I eased my way to wearing them out casually, and now have become quite obsessed with styling them. I am sure quarantine has provided more opportunity for the convince, but I’ve admittedly changed my vote.

Styling these shorts goes beyond their name and intended use. And when styled casually, there are no limitations on who can wear them!  They simply become Summer’s version of leggings. Just a shortened version of our everyday pull. And when you think of it that way, why would one dismiss the op for comfort? Today’s post rounds up 6 different pairs of bike shorts, offered from 6 different retailers. For fun, I’ve also styled them each a few ways to convince versatility and universal wear. Let’s take them all for a spin, shall we?

Fabletics Mila high waisted pocket short // This pair was my guinea pig. I love all of Fabletics leggings, so I thought why not give these a try. Having never tried the trend, I didn’t know really what to expect, nor did I have set standards for the ‘perfect’ bike short. I feel I hit the jackpot with these, as they set the bar pretty high from the start. They’ve the perfect amount of compression, do not ride up mid workout, and hold hidden pockets for any accessories. They’re sweat proof, moisture wicking, and even have UPF protection. They are beyond comfortable, fit TTS, and are my ride (or any workout) go-to.

Aerie Move mesh high waist biker short // I grabbed these for the fun color, alone. Knowing these are intended for a workout, I wanted to add to my growing stash of new workout gear. In description, these are made with their most supportive fabric. They’re designed with a little less stretch, and intended for support. Their claim for support reigns true, and still find these very snug having sized up one size. I feel sizing up 2 sizes will render my best fit. Five other colors are available in these sleek, chic, mesh moving favorites!

Ellie Activewear // Having received these in my Ellie box subscription this month, I thought to include them in our round up! First off, the color!! So fun and bright for Summer! I typically size up in Ellie activewear, which worked well with these shorts. They give me enough stretch and compression to get me through a workout and are a fun way to brighten up your everyday style. Only con to this particular pair is finding they aren’t as seamless as others. They are less thick in fabric, causing a slight show thru of your underwear outline.

Amazon athletic shorts // Absolutely love the feel of these. Soft, stretchy, and form fitting. Holding 25% spandex, these are moisture wicking and non-see through. Also available in 4 colors. Unlike the Aerie mesh shorts, I feel they’re designed for activewear and casual wear. They’ve less compression and the solid streamline stitch is flattering both on and off the bike.  The black pair is currently in my Amazon cart!

American Eagle Highest waisted wide waistband bike short // I believe these (I’ve both the zebra print and solid grey) pushed me to love bike shorts as much as I do. Putting these on gave light to this idea that a non-pro such as myself, could wear bike shorts for something other than a workout. I absolutely LOVE this style from American Eagle. They are unbelievably buttery soft, stretchy, high waisted (which I love), and so fun to style. To ensure the perfect level of comfort, I sized up in these. I wouldn’t, however, choose these to workout in. I feel these intended for more casual wear than anything.

Alo Yoga High waist biker shorts // I wanted a solid black pair to sport both casually and thru my low-impact yoga sessions. Alo Yoga came up in search, and after reading positive reviews, I gave these a go! These are so comfortable, material is breathable, and they do not ride up mid-movement. Only drawback that may bother some is the larger logo on the front. They fit TTS, are excellent quality and have become an everyday favorite.

Below I’ve styled a few ways to wear. From sporty and casual to more elevated and dressy, they’ve proven versatile!

Gone are the days I thought them solely for the pros. The biker short trend is one I hope stays around for a while. They are so good – and imo, worth all the hype. How about you? Are you on board the bike short train? Or do you have any of those mentioned above? Would love to know! As always, thanks for stopping by today! xoxo
