June 12×12 Style Challenge

I am going to be completely honest with you,  I’ve been doing capsule wardrobes for almost two years and have never heard of the 10 x 10 Style Challenge™. The majority of my style content lives around curating outfits from a set number of pieces, so you’d think I’d have some indication of what this challenge is, but nope, I had to google it.

I’ll note – I get really, I mean really giddy when I discover new ways to share style with you. Giving you another tool on that style belt of yours makes my day. So when I learned of it’s origination and the reason behind it, I knew I had to give it a go. Lee Vosburgh over at Style Bee established the 10 x 10 Style Challenge™ in 2015 to encourage creativity with her clothes during a 30 day shopping fast. The concept is essentially a mini capsule consisting of 10 items that you work with for 10 days. You create new looks and style your clothes in ways you might not otherwise try.

Granted, I am not on a shopping fast. And as you can see by the title of this post, I budged a little with the set number of pieces. But I am a huge advocate for style discovery and learning ways to get more out of your closet.  Having researched and now completed the challenge, I agree with Lee that it brings to light what works in your closet (or what doesn’t) so that you can in return shop smarter and do more with less.

So, let’s get to the items, shall we?

TOPS

Pink short sleeve sweater // I pulled this from my Spring wardrobe capsule. I love the color it brings to the count and wide versatility. It’s extremely soft, too. Fits tts.

Lace trim ruffle tank // I wanted a solid white top in the mix, but also know my love for different textures. This cute eyelet tank hits the spot. Fits tts.

Button ruffled sleeve tank // Loving florals (really anytime of the year), I knew I needed to add one to the mix. Tho this top is no longer available, I’ve linked several other contenders that would have worked just as well, here.

high neck bodysuit // Any bodysuit from Abercrombie, imo, is a must in your wardrobe. I love this high neck style and the difference it brings to any solid tank. I always size up one in these.

Free People sweater // Now, I know what you’re thinking – a sweater, Sarah? It’s nearly 80 degrees out. But .. this one is a really great option for those rainy overcast days that we seem to be getting lately. I spend a lot of my time indoors and love how comfortable this has been to throw on. Plus, it was a fun challenge to style with the warmer weather pieces. Intended to fit oversized.

Button up gauze shirt // I love styling a button up, and knew adding one to the mix would provide a lot of style opportunity. This one is extremely soft and comfortable. Fits tts.

JACKETS

denim // One can never go wrong with a denim jacket. I truly feel this is the jacket every girl needs in her closet. I size up for a little extra room.
houndstooth long knit blazer // Not only did I add this in for for those days I want to dress up a little, I thought it would be really fun to style over casual looks as well. Highly versatile. Fits tts.

BOTTOMS

High rise skinny jeans // Ya’ll know my love for Abercrombie denim. These are a pair I reach for most, challenge or not. Fit tts.

Agolde Parker shorts // I briefly discussed these in this year’s Denim short round up. They’ve turned a favorite and are extremely comfortable. Size down 1.

White denim // Once the temps warm up a bit, white denim comes into play. I don’t have many pairs of white denim, because I feel I’ve found a winner with these. Love the cropped leg and high waist. I sized down in these and grabbed the ankle length.

Floral tiered mini skirt (similar) // I’ve accumulated quite a few floral tiered mini skirts this season, so it was hard to choose a favorite. Tho this exact is no longer available, this trend is widely popular amongst all retailers. Having styled it three ways below, I’ve an itch to spotlight a few more ways of wear soon. Stay tuned!

Below I’ve put together 12 outfits using the 12 items listed above! Would love to learn your favorite amongst them all!

After completing this challenge, it’s really given me thought to incorporate more of these in content here at TSS. I still plan to curate the larger seasonal capsules we all love, but the smaller count is fun to work with and gives me opportunity to input new pieces or trends I am loving into rotation. Hopefully you’ll enjoy the inspo just as much as I love to create it! Until our next challenge – xx
